Saint Patrick’s Day

On 17th March we celebrated Saint Patrick’s day, so in our English lesson we worked about him.
We learnt that he was British, but he lived in Ireland because he was captured by Irish pirates.
He became a priest and some centuries later Patrick was named as the patron Saint of Ireland.
Nowadays, people celebrate parades and concerts, not only in Ireland but all over the world. Furthermore our mates in Primary wore green clothes to celebrate this day.
We enjoyed a lot learning about the culture of other countries.

SYMBOLS:
The shamrock: Used to help people to understand God. The Irish have considered shamrocks as good-luck symbols since earliest times, and today people of many other nationalities also believe they bring good luck.

Leprechaun: magical person from Irish folk tales.

CELEBRATION:
People wear green clothes and shamrocks. They eat beef, cabbage, potatoes…
